The objectives are a combination of education and Navy discipline, with military training subordinate to academic work.
What is the beginning date of the summersemester at Dartmouth for both civilianand Navy students?
Classes will begin on Monday, July 5. Registration of civilian freshmen will be Thursday, July 1. Registration of civilian upperclassmen will be July 4. Orders for Navy students will require them to report in Hanover earlier than July 5, probably about July 1.
Will there be a Marine Unit at Dartmouth?
Yes. As stated above, the Marine Unit included in the Navy V-12 program will total 660 students. The Marines will be housed in separate dormitories and will have their own Commanding Officer, drill sergeants, etc. but will, as on shipboard, come under Naval authority.
Who tvill be in charge of the V-12 Unit atDartmouth?
A Commanding Officer to take charge of the V-12 Unit, both Navy and Marines, will arrive in Hanover in early June.

Will trainees be under Navy discipline?
Yes, but military and Naval training are secondary to educational objectives of the program. The Commanding Officer may establish local regulations which are likely to include strict requirements and possibly a demerit system to insure proper conduct of trainees. In respect to daily liberty and week-end leave, regulations will be established by the C.O.
