Among the nation's 137 newly named Guggenheim Fellows are 12 historians, and two of these are Dartmouth professors. Pamela Crossley will use her $28,000 award for travel to research her book on how art and artifacts helped China's Qing empire maintain its power for almost 300 years. Leo Spitzer is also writing a book, an oral history on the emigration of Central European Jews to Bolivia during the Hitler years.
