After hearing varied rumors from several parts of the country during the past few months that Dave Hedges was either lost or missing in action, it was certainly swell news to learn that he is very much alive and still slinging things at the Germans. He did have a good deal of excitement thrown in which included the sinking of his boat, a twenty-hour tussle with the Mediterranean, and a short stay in a hospital. He is now completely well and anxious to get a new uniform to replace the peasant togs and make-shift uniforms he's had to wear in the meantime.

New dormitories will definitely be in order if the balance of the graduating classes are doing the repopulating job that '34 is. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Beers announce the arrival of sevenpound Susan Elizabeth Beers on August 24. Tommy is captain of a coastal transport and hasn't yet had a chance to meet the new gal. Hugh and Ann Logan provide dates for future Dartmouths with Margaret Caroline Logan, born October 12. A very military looking piece of mail that I thought might be my draft notice proved to be the announcement that Alice Mosher, the daughter of Fred and Edith, was born on October 28 and weighed in at a neat seven pounds, eight ounces. (Incidentally her dad is a captain now.) Sidney and Melba Wisch have also joined the group of proud parents with their introduction of Phyllis Roberta Wisch on November 14. "Pappy" Wisch is doing his bit in a war plant in Cleveland. The Bob Warners were celebrating last July 14 over the arrival of their second daughter, name of Cheryl Ann. Bob's doin' good in other ways, too, as he now sits in the chair of assistant treasurer of the First of Boston International Corporation. The Arthur MacGregors have made a strong bid for the lead in our own stork derby with Ellen (4 lb. 5 oz.) and Anne (4 lb. Yd oz.) twins born on August 21. Don't go away. We've got some boys to fill up those dormitories I was building awhile back. Art Eriksen, who is doing everything in his power to keep Congoleum- Nairn running smoothly, is now the father of Frederick Jay Eriksen. William P., for Plummer, Clough casually remarked in a recent letter that he now has two boys but failed to give any more detailed information. Bill is doing general surgery in New London (better known as the home of Colby). He was very glad to report that putting sailor suits on the boys from Hanover hasn't changed in any way their attitude towards Colby girls. Captain Bob Smith of the U. S. Air Medical Corps is another who hasn't been doing his duty to his class secretaries as the grapevine assures us that he now has two "chillun" and he's only told us about one.

And how's about some pictures. The wife, kiddies, class groups, old shots, new shots, anything you'd like to have printed. I'd like to compare some current photos with the best that White Studios had to offer in 1934. A note from Nels Krogslund brought out the following information: "Much to my surprise and delight, I'm now a benedict Name, Ann Weaver, blonde and blue-eyed and lovely .... home town, Anoka, Minnesota I met her in Greenwich last March, proposed in April, and was married September 10."

The newspapers are carrying stories on some mighty fancy and important work being done by Dr. George Engle on aviator blindness. Has something to do with blindness in one eye at extremely high altitudes.

El Fulton raised the total of married '34S on October 15 when he was married to Miss Effie Grace Thompson at Hanover.

A note from Harry Brague: ". . . . Am now attached to A.M.G. Had a few drinks with Russ Davis (Capt. Quartermaster Corps.) in Washington a few months ago. Also ran into Bud Ballard (Lt. Marine Corps) on a New York-bound train in October."

Stan Silverman is still with the overseas radio end of 0.W.1, and, despite recent good news, is afraid that there will be a need for him there for sometime to come. Gene Orsenigo is still with the Orsenigo Co., who have stopped making their regular line to help build up the Merchant Marines. Art Willis is with the Federal Reserve Bank in New York; Bob Wood is in the Army and now overseas; Ernie Barcella is still with the United Press Association in Washington.

Ed Hilton writes from the Southwest Pacific, where he is a liaison pilot with the Field Artillery, that he's having no end of fun confusing all those he runs into with his combination of crossed cannon and silver wings. Stu Barber writes: " Just finished ACI school at Quonset and on leave just prior to heading for Pacific. .... Jim Darling is headed for San Diego. Also at Quonset, in addition to those noted by Knibbs in last ALUMNI MAG, were Ens. Ed Heffernan, in Supply Corps attached to station, and Lt. Bill Wyne who has been attached to Fleet Air Wing there for some time now. Only other '34 man seen lately is Jack Gilbert just before his removal to Amherst." Hank Pierce is now stationed at Camp Haven, Calif., Bob Newman is still near home, being stationed at Camp Edwards, Mass., Walt Blood is a lieutenant in the adjutant general's office at Fort Benning, Ga., and Alan Tawse is a first lieutenant at Camp Lee, Va. A little more complete information on Ace Miller. After leaving Washington the last of February for Ft. Schuyler and his basic training, he was shipped to Port Hueneme, Calif., and finally to the south Pacific the first part of August. He is now the gunnery officer of his unit. Ned Mudge is stationed in England; Ed Marceau in Springfield, Mo., and Bob Morris is at the Naval Air Station at Clinton, Okla. George Ham is a lieutenant at the Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland; and little Stevie Meigher is now a captain.

We were most sorry to learn of the sudden death of Tom Keady, brother of Walt, and carrying a name that has meant much to Dartmouth for many years. Last month I mentioned that Dick Herman had run into more than his share of excitement and now I have pretty much the full story available. Unfortunately, we are being cut on space this month and we'll have to save it for an issue in the very near future. (The comic strips or Saturday afternoon neighborhood movies have nothing on me for making you come again for more!)
