I regret to announce the death of our class president, O. D. Mathewson, which occurred on August 12. Reynolds, in writing me, paid him a fine tribute in the following words: "For him we had very sincere admiration and regard. He was a typical Dartmouth graduate of the first order. He did not go out into the big world in search of name or fame or substance. From college he went to his old niche in the scheme of life. And there he remained to prosper and to become the leader in his community. He served his people in scholarship, in politics, in business. He possessed their full respect, confidence and support. His goal was stability, not notoriety. He found his reward in the respect of his neighbors, those who knew him best, not in the headlines of a worldly press, nor in the laurel wreath that fades so soon in the outside spotlight. He is a real loss to his family circle, to his community, to his class and his college, and to American good citizenship ill general." Obituary will appear next month.
