Now that a poor weather summer has passed (we had .24 inches of rain in July) let's have more letters from you with NEWS. Our annual fall class executive meeting has been called by Jack Davis for 8 p.m. Friday, November 7, in Crosby Hall. All classmates are welcome and we want your ideas. At this writing a few room reservations are available at the Norwich Inn. That is the Columbia weekend, and fall houseparty time.
Dick Nye is to be congratulated on winning on June 27 the most coveted yachting trophy in the world the Bermuda Cup. A late June wedding was that of Stephanie Emerson, daughter of Milt and Alice, to Richard Frederick Weldon in the Community Church at Teaneck, N. J. I haven't details on classmates attending, but the reception was held at the Knickerbocker Club in Tenafly, N. J. Stephanie graduated from the Dwight School for Girls in Englewood and attended Hood College and Berkeley School. The groom graduated from Colgate, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon, and served with the Marines in World War 11. They honeymooned in Bermuda before taking up residence in New Jersey. Milt and his assistants are to be congratulated on their over-the-top effort in the Alumni Fund campaign. Against our quota of .$15,000, donations from 354 men totalled $19,455. Milt, an ardent dry fly fisherman, reports that this summer was not a memorable one. In his "secret spots" in the Adirondacks the streams were either too high or too low at least, so he says.
On July 5, Roxanne Wheldon, second daughter oF Ford and Gertie, was married at their lovely estate in Norwich, Vt., to Edward Kenneth Isbey Jr. '51, o£ Grosse Point, Mich. Content Characterizations of Best-SellingNovels is written by Dr. Jack Harvey, professor of library science at Parsons College, Fairfield, la., and published in a microcard edition by the Microcard Foundation, Middletown, Conn. The book was written as a doctoral dissertation at the University of Chicago. Jack found that plenty of emotion, lots of wordage, exclamation points, along with a sentimental theme throughout the novel, are important factors in a best-seller.
Col. Max Emerson recently visited in Boston en route from Germany to his September station at the Atlantic General Depot. BennieWerntz, who travels over half the time, usually in his own plane, reports that his daughter Margaret Ellen graduated from Green Mountain Junior College a year ago and married William Harper Jr. of Cleveland, an R.P.I. graduate. From June Bryant comes word that the Meginnitys, Bob, Gladys and son David were to meet Buck and Carolyn Jones around Labor Day at the Triangle X Ranch in Moose, Wyo. Seems to me something was said about how it might be difficult to picture Bob on a horse. June was elected a director of Friends of the Dartmouth Library, as was Francis Brown. Brownie's literary talents were recognized by the College in June when he received the degree of Doctor of Letters for his life of Henry Jarvis Raymond, founder and first editor of the New York Times, of which Brownie is the Book Review editor.
