The Dartmouth Club of the Piedmont (DCP) hosted 32 alums, guests, book award winners, current students and parents who enjoyed a great eve- ning of food, fellowship, fun and sharing at the annual triangle holiday dinner on December 11 at the North Carolina State University Club. A highlight was the presentation of the DCP un- dergraduate scholarship to Elias Bello ’18. Five book award winners were recognized, along with five undergraduates: Leda Espinoza ’16, Elisabeth Schricker ’17, George Hito ’18, Trevor Davis ’18 and DCP scholarship holder Elias Bello. Alums at- tending included event organizer Tom Andrews ’60, Betsy Booth Scalco ’87, Nathan Bullock ’11, David Dulceany (an adopted ’11), Doug Koenig ’77, Ken Lundstrom ’55, Rick ’79 and Nancy ’81 Sharpless, Marvin Soroos ’67 and Tom Tiemann ’70.
The Dartmouth Club of Rhode Island (DCRI) held its holiday party on December 15 at the Providence Art Club. More than 70 alumni, un- dergraduates and guests enjoyed a festive eve- ning in an elegant atmosphere. On September 20 DCRI sponsored a water-based (beer optional) pong tourney that sold out with more than 50 players and spectators, including Jacob Robbins ’11, Christine Tian ’10, Anne Brown ’11, Meg Atha ’13, Jennifer O’Donnell ’13, Francese Dales ’10, Eli Mitchell ’10, Chris Nichols ’95, Amita Kulkarni ’10, John Chol- noky ’08, Tatiana Cooke ’12, Mike Kim ’95, Jordan Frank ’94, Rachel Eggleston ’12 and Travis Price ’11.
The Dartmouth Club of Eastern New York supported the Dartmouth women’s ice hockey team that shut out (3-0) Rensselaer Polytech- nic Institute (RPI) on January 9 at the Houston Field House in Troy, New York, and defeated (3-1) Union College on January 10 at Messa
Arena in Schenectady, New York. At each game about a dozen alumni, guests and team parents cheered on the Green to victory while enjoying RPI’s complimentary hot chocolate and cookies and supporting Union’s “Pink at the Rink” breast cancer awareness day.
The Dartmouth Club of the Midwest held a suc- cessful annual ice skating party on January 18 at the Lake of the Isles rink in Minneapolis, Min- nesota. Club social director Margaret Vergeyle ’79 organized the event for more than a dozen alumni and guests. Christi Strauss ’82, Tu’86, hosted the group at her home for hot chocolate and other refreshments after an afternoon of skating.
At Club and Affiliated Group Officers Week- end (CAGOW) on January 23-25 in Hanover club of the year awards went to the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D.C. (metro club), the Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia (large club) and the Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania (medium club). The Dartmouth Club of Eastern Fairfield County and the Dartmouth Women’s Club of Boston shared the honors as small clubs of the year. The Dartmouth Uniformed Service Alumni received the Affiliated Group of the Year Award. The Club President of the Year Award went to Dimitri Gerakaris ’69 of the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley. S. Caroline Kerr ’05, president of the Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alumni/ae Association (DGALA), was recognized as Group Officer of the Year. At CAGOW Cheri Comeau ’02, president of the Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts, was elected president of the Club Officers Associa- tion, succeeding Howard Hodel ’75, president of the Dartmouth Club of Hawaii.
CAGOW provides opportunities for club officers to exchange ideas for club events, such as gatherings featuring the 62-minute docu- mentary Passion for Snow, produced by Stephen Waterhouse ’65, Tu’67, that presents more than 100 years of ski history in the United States and highlights the role played by Dartmouth and its alumni in developing the ski industry throughout the country.
