The Matt Jones Fall Roundup (name suggested by Jack Nutt) will be held this year at the University Club, Boston, Friday, October 13, on the eve of the Dartmouth-Notre Dame game. Further information will go out to the class by mail. The custom here is: "Come or write." This event is thought to have the same relationship to the class that Dartmouth Night has to the College.
It may be that Frank Balch has been indulging in poetry all these years without letting anyone know. At all events our Fiftieth has led him to write the following:
THE REUNION
Who could foresee how "rare" those days "in June" Would be? The campus elms, and what was more Than trees or flowers—the love for Ninety- four— Made us forget where earth was not "in tune."
From absent brothers welcome greetings came, We heard with rising pride how rich the store Left us by loyal strong men gone beforeHow steadfast years have wrought full share of fame.
All "those who loved the college" in the time Of Webster and of Marsh, would join today In lauding leaders who allay men's fears; Schooled in the "Dartmouth spirit,"—still sublime. We praise her presidents, a grand array, Yet most, those who have bridged our fifty years.
In any moment of depression members of the class might read the following note from Hope Mudgett Pratt: "I want to tell you again how very much I enjoyed the privilege of attending 94's Reunion and X wish I might have been there longer My biggest regret was that I didn't have time to get better acquainted with such a grand group of men."
On his way home from the Fiftieth, Jimmie Townsend was honored by a banquet at the Yale Club in New York, June 22. The writer of this column is now looking at a picture of those who sat at the head table, with Jimmie at the center, and behind him his own lifesized picture. Judging from the printed material which accompanies this picture the principal reason for this banquet was that Jimmie had just come from attending his Fiftieth reunion. The caption is "Old Grad Honored." Incidentally, however, it is intimated that the event was also a tribute, to Jimmie's remarkable success during the years as an advertising man, particularly his Pacific Coast representation of Parents' Magazine.
In the realm of "vital statistics": Robert DeLong Merrill was born at the Baker Memorial Hospital, in Boston, July S2, 1944. It is understood that he may follow his brother, John Leverett Merrill Jr., at Dartmouth, the latter being registered for the class of 1962.
NOTED MEMBER OF 50TH REUNION CLASS. James A. Townsend '94 (right) was guest of honor at a testimonial luncheon given in New York by Parents Magazine. Among those present was Sigurd S. Larmon '14, former president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association.
