THE DOCNY marked its ninth season by notable inactivity. Membership has fallen off from the pre-war days, when we were pressing close to 100, to a lamentable dozen (lamentable only in number!). In gratitude for their loyalty, we list them: Lt. Harry Gilmore '34 (His dollar came from Florida), Ike Phillips '23 (Who threw in an extra $4.00 "to pay the memberships of some of our absent ones"), Ernie Early '18 ("I just get a vicarious thrill of youth in being a member, for one toss on skis and I'd be 4FFF"), Bob Cleary '26, Dick Eberhart '35, A. E. Thurber '33, Jack Hubbard '29, Dick Holton '18, Dick Highland, Jim White '24, Larry Lougee '29 and the undersigned. Listing of this stalwart crew of 4F's, 28'S, over 38's and other forms of civilians (for the most part) is not to be construed as criticizing the unlisted for disloyalty. We all know they would a damsite rather be with us than where they are.
Most of us got in a little skiing during a not-too-wintry winter. White, Chandler and Holton staged a sedate (of course) get-together over Washington's birthday at Ye Worthy Inn of Manchester, Vt. Hirshland and his Bonnie bride managed to last out ten days of deep powder on Cannon and Pico. Phillips confessed to two weekends on Mt. Mansfield and Cleary has admitted to excellent conditions and company at Tremblant. Sounds like the Inn Corner on the Cornell game weekend, with Judge McLane, Bob (Manchester) Burroughs, Harvey Hood, Steve Brodby, Bob Cruikshank '31, Jim Browning and two of our own club's service alumni Bob Collins and Ev Wood on hand.
So for another season, with prospects still doubtful for next year. All we can promise is that we'll keep a semblance of a club going till you birds doing the real job get back with us again.
