The Dartmouth wrestling team successfully concluded its extended winter season activities by sending four men with Coach George Weekes (C.Sp.) to compete in the New England A.A.U. tournament sponsored by the Boston Y.M.C.A. on Saturday March 27. Entered in the competition were men from Harvard, M.I.T., Tufts, Brown, Pennsylvania, private schools and Y.M.C.A. organizations.
Bob Bach, in the 128-pound class, and Art Shelley, in the 145-pound class, won the titles in their classes. Pete Fuller sprained his ankle in the semi-finals but in spite of this painful handicap he competed in the 175-pound final and lost by a very close decision. In the final of the unlimited class, Larry Mulvaney of Dartmouth was barely defeated by Di Battista, a threetime Eastern Intercollegiate wresding champion when a Pennsylvania undergraduate. Dartmouth won the mythical title in the tournament with M.I.T. as runner-up.
