Harry Hillman's track squad seems adequately manned to carry on where the fall cross-country and winter indoor track teams left off. All the evidence indicates that Captain Don Burnham's team will be most capably represented in the running events, the javelin and the shotput this spring.
Coach Hillman predicts that Walt Newman, his best sprinter, will run the century around the 10-second mark. Added points should be provided in the dashes by Bob Johnson and Bob Grady, transfers from Harvard and M. I. T., respectively.
Charlie Grohsberger, originally of N.Y.U., leads the candidates available for the 440, with Dartmouth's Bob Poet '46 and George Phippen, formerly of Mass. State, running behind him.
The cream of the Dartmouth track talent is concentrated in the 880-yard run and the mile. It will take exceptional running by our opponents this year to place in either event because Capt. Don Burnham is ably abetted by Frank Fox and Bill Atkinson, all three members of the indoor I.C.A.A.A.A. two-mile relay championship team. Jim Garabaldi and Chauncey Burtch are also available for these events.
Clark Judge '46, the fourth member of the championship two-mile relay team, will have Aloise Lupa and Herbert Aronson running with him in the two mile event.
Perry Serafim '46, second in the Indoor I.C.A.A.A.A. championship this past winter, will be point scorer in the shotput, with Wilcomb Washburn and Bill Bennett contending in the same event. Serafim and Taylor appear to be the best prospects for the discuss throw. Tom Leech '46, Bill Bennett and Hal Bowman '45 of football fame are the best performers in the hammer throw.
The schedule is as follows: Apr. 28-29—Penn Relays at Philadelphia May 6—Army 8c Columbia at West Point 20—1.C.A.A.A.A. at Philadelphia 27—Pennsylvania at Hanover June 3—Hep tagonal Games at West Point
MORE SILVERWARE for Dartmouth's growing 1943-44 collection is received by Capt. Aud Brindley '46 at the conclusion of the Eastern play-offs in the NCAA tournament.
