The wizardry of Coach Tom Dent will be severely taxed this season because he has to start literally from scratch. Dartmouth was not represented in lacrosse last year and to make matters worse, Coach Dent has no letterman left over from previous competition under his tutelage. Forty-three men have responded to the call for lacrosse candidates, some of whom have had competitive experience elsewhere.
Coach Dent is breaking in Henry Dutcher to defend the Big Green goal and he is priming Jack Burroughs and Steve Hall both Dartmouth boys who have played some lacrosse here at Hanover before, to play the close defense positions. At first defense, Gerald Phillips '47 of Brooklyn Poly Prep has the call at present. Bob Zaumseil of Middlebury is the choice at second defense with Walt Troy, who saw service at Columbia, as a standout at Center. Charlie Stebbins from Mass. State and Bobby Merriam '47, the hockey star, seem most promising at second attack and first attack respectively. For in home and out home, Coach Dent has Mark Foley and John Fuller '47, both of whom have played in Long Island high school competition. Jacob Jacobsen, Joe Carlin, Bernard Stead and Ted Douglas look as though they will be valuable replacement material.
The schedule is as follows: April 29 Williams at Hanover May 6 Tufts at Hanover 13 M. I. T. at Hanover 27 Tufts at Medford June 3 M. I. T. at Cambridge 10 Williams at Williamstown
