WILLIAM HAMILTON WOOD, Professor of Biblical History and Literature at Dartmouth, retired from teaching on July 1 and has been named Professor Emeritus. A member of the Dartmouth faculty since 1917, Professor Wood served as College Chaplain and Professor of Biblical History and Literature, later became Assistant Chaplain in order to devote more time to his teaching.

Born in Ontario, Canada, he studied at the University of Toronto, received a B.D. from Victoria University in Toronto, and the same degree from Yale in 1905. He remained at Yale for the following four years, during which time he received his Master's and Doctor's degrees. He then studied abroad at the American School of Archaeology in Jerusalem, at Gottingen and Berlin Universities, and at the University of Paris. Before coming to Dartmouth he taught Biblical literature at Birmingham (Ala.) College, Allegheny College, and Hamline University.

An authority on Palestine and Jerusalem, Mr. Wood has given lectures and public addresses on the Middle East of the present day and of the ancient world. He has written various articles for the Biblical World and Religious Education, as well as Sunday School journals and college magazines. He is the author of TheReligion of Science and InternationalSunday School Graded Lessons, SeniorGrade, is a member of the Religious Education Association, Association of Biblical Teachers of America, the American Oriental Society, the American Historical Association, and the Society of Biblical Literature.
