PROMOTIONS FOR SEVEN MEMBERS of the Dartmouth faculty and appointment of two new instructors for the present Summer Term were announced by President Hopkins during the recess, following action at the June meeting of the Dartmouth Board of Trustees. The resignations of six faculty members were accepted at the end of the last term, and extension of special leave for war service was voted to 38 other members of the staff.

Five of the seven promotions were for Thayer School men and the other two were for members of the Dartmouth Eye Institute staff. Those promoted and their present ranks are as follows: Edward S. Brown Jr. '34, Professor of Civil Engineering; Joseph J. Ermenc, Professor of Mechanical Engineering; John H. Minnich '28, Professor of Civil Engineering; John M. Hirst '38, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering; S. Russell Stearns '37, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering; Robert E. Bannon, Assistant Professor of Applied Physiological Optics in the Eye Institute; and Carl F. Breisacher, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology in the Eye Institute.

The two new faculty members this term are Leo Lapidus of Brookline, Mass., who will serve as Instructor in. Mathematics, tod Alberto V. Infante of Lima, Peru, who will be Assistant in Spanish. Senor Infante, who attended San Marcos University, will be a special student at Dartmouth.
