New Hospital President
January 1946

PROFESSOR JOHN P. AMSDEN 'so, of the Chemistry Department, was elected president of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital upon the resignation, the latter part of November, of Max A. Norton '19, bursar and assistant treasurer of the College, from that post. Mr. Norton had been president of the institution for ten years and upon his retirement the trustees of the hospital placed upon their records a resolution expressing their deep appreciation of his invaluable and productive services.

Professor Amsden, a member of the hospital board, has been active in its building program and as a volunteer worker during the recent wartime labor shortage.

The hospital recently announced an expansion of its plant by the construction of a go-bed convalescent unit across the street from the main buildings. The new unit, costing $115,000, is being built on the east grounds of the Fowler House, nurses' residence, which was formerly the home of the late Dr. John M. Gile '87. It is expected to be ready next fall for convalescent and long-time patients.
