THE DARTMOUTH OUTING CLUB of Northern California, which was dormant during the war years, began a season of considerable activity after President Mortimer L. Crowell Jr. '29 made an announcement of its purposes and prospects at the meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Northern California and Nevada in San Francisco in April. Several new members have joined the Club and a number of meetings have been held to discuss plans for construction of a Lodge on the site the Club owns close to Donner Summit, California.

A new Board of Directors and Club officers were elected and took over in August. They are Dr. Peter S. Talbot '38, President; Herbert B. Porter '40, Vice President; Capt. Winsor D. Wilkinson '10, Secretary and Treasurer; Robert B. Allen '33 and William S. Danforth '41, members.

Concrete progress was made over the Labor Day weekend, when four of those named above, assisted part of the time by Edward G. Washburn '45 and Donald Ross '41, built the foundations for a building approximately 20 by 48 feet. The present program calls for construction of underpinning to the main floor level with used snow-shed timbers, which are available near the site.

Then if time, materials, some money (new memberships at $10 and more labor is available before snow flies, an enclosure of some sort will be erected on at least a portion of the present foundation. That will provide shelter and minimum facilities for a limited number of those who will want to enjoy the skiing this winter.
