THE FALL SEMESTER began October 4 with a total enrollment in Thayer School of 109. The first year class consists of 33 Civils, 11 Electricals, 23 Mechanicals, and 10 TuckThayers for a total of 77. The second year class is composed of 14 Civils, 4 Electricals, 5 Mechanicals, and 9 Tuck-Thayers for a total of 32. Of the total group 107 are veterans.

Three new members have joined the faculty. Edward J. Butler, Assistant Professor of Engineering and Management is a graduate of Rutgers University in 1924 and has had extensive engineering and business experience with Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, New York & Queens Electric Power Company, Western Electric Company, Raytheon Manufacturing Company, and Consolidated Edison Company of New York.

William J. Eckel, Instructor in Electrical Engineering, is a graduate of New York University College of Engineering, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. He received his master's degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette in 1942. Mr. Eckel was a graduate assistant at Lafayette while working for his master's degree. He then went with General Electric, completed their test course, and held the post of requisition engineer at their Philadelphia plant.

John T. Hanley, Assistant in Engineering, is acting as part-time laboratory assistant while studying for a Master's degree.

We were pleased to receive a visit from Luther S. Oakes 'oo, a member of the Thayer School Board of Overseers, on Wednesday, October 9,.

Dick Mooney '28 paid us a visit in September. Dick is still located in Puerto Rico with the Central Aguirre Sugar Company. The tropics certainly must agree with Dick for we all thought that he did not look a day older than when he left Thayer School. However, he insists that he is.

An article in a recent issue of New EnglandConstruction announced the-appointment of Philip Kitfield '21 as Chief Engineer of the Massachusetts Department of Public Works.

Among the returned ex-servicemen at Thayer School who previously have received their bachelor's degrees and are now working for Master's degrees after Army or Navy service, are the following: Byrkit, Chadwell, Clark, Field, Parker, Ross, Sawyer, Vic Smith, Stifler, Vitalini, Waterbury, Tower, Wallace, McPherson, Staples, Tyler, Aldom, Bush, Candler, Dyke, Gurney, McLoud, O'Brien. It certainly seemed like old home week when these men walked in.
