BRICK WORK on the new electrical engineering wing has been completed at this writing, and has been carried to first story height on the mechanical engineering wing. Progress has been slow but steady since June, and under present conditions any kind of progress is phenomenal. The contractor has gone out on a limb to the extent of promising to have the electrical engineering wing ready for occupancy in October. We are skeptical, but hope they can make good on their promise. The mechanical wing is scheduled for completion in January.
Visits from returning Thayer School men have been frequent occurrences during the summer. The class Reunions brought many of the old grads back and a very high percentage of discharged veterans make at least one pilgrimage to Hanover. A number of the latter will return to Thayer School for the fall term. Judging from the number who have visited Hanover and the news that they bring there would seem to be very few Thayer men remaining in the service at this time. Even the younger men are completing their Navy careers sooner than expected. It is a source of real inspiration to talk with these men about their activities and experiences, and their unanimous loyalty to Thayer School is a constant challenge to us to make sure that we deserve it.
Steve Horner '45 is now in Hanover taking courses in the College. Bob Aldom '46, Fletcher Clark '46, Bruce O'Brien '47, and Cal Gurney '47 have been to town and are lined up for some Tuck School courses this fall.
Don Amy '43 was also in town attired in civilian clothes. Warren Quimby '46 was here in June on terminal leave from the Marine Corps and was applying for admission to M.I.T. Jim Eckels '46 visited us in May and reported meeting Paul Talbot '46 and Dave Davidson '46 on Saipan, Sam Florman '47 on Truk, and Vic Smith '46 on the ship coming back.
Bob Anthony '46, recently returned from Manila, has been appointed to the newly created job of Town Assistant for the Town of Hanover. The job is the equivalent of Town Engineer.
