Members of the class (a large proportion of the total) who enjoyed the royal hospital- Centre, Mass., for as many years, will share the regret of Mrs. Jones at the demolition of that house. The new owners are going to put up a Mexican style building. As Mrs. Jones writes, "It makes one sad to think of it."
The understanding is that the class treasurer's last call for funds brought in something of a surplus after necessary bills were paid. Hence a trip to Florida was possible again this year. Says Billy: "This business is lots of work, but the harvesting is the part where the work brings the returns. So will try to keep going. Nice and warm and folks are all well." This is from Vero Beach, Box FF.
Over in another part of Florida a Dartmouth Club has been organized with E. V. Spoone and E. O. Grover (our two "Edwins," by the way) as charter members, and Grover as secretary-treasurer.
Going still further west in the same state we find Jim McGroty at St. Petersburg, in his customary appreciative, discerning and optimistic attitude of mind. Appreciation: "Our class has a wide-awake president, one who does not wish to let go undone anything pertaining to its success." Discernment: "Sometimes it seems queer that the President who is now leaving the College had hardly entered 'Prep' when we were seniors and the incoming man had not been born. Tempusfugit. We are all growing old." Optimism: "Hope President Dickey will be as successful as President Hopkins."
A new wrinkle of the alert people who supervise this department of the MAGAZINE is to send us secretaries information about our classmates who visit the Hanover Inn from time to time. The first score here is for Phil Marden: "Arrived January 10, left January 11."
To keep the record straight and complete with regard to what penicillin has done for the health and longevity of our class, it may be reported that in December a carbuncle appeared on the secretary's neck. Resorting to his family physician (whose name is also Merrill, incidentally) he was sent to a surgeon, who promptly prescribed penicillin. After about eight injections at the proper place in the secretarial anatomy, the carbuncle, in the words of the poet, "folded its tent like the Arabs and silently stole away."
