Foolish lad if you appear Without a coat upon your frame That part of you called "middle rear" Will never, never be the same.

The two month's interstice between New Year's Day ushering in the new decade and Inauguration Day ushering in the new administration as of this writing has less than 48 hours to go. February has sped by at supersonic pace. The highlight of the month was the Boston Alumni Dinner at the new Boston Sheraton on Feb. 11 with a large turnout of alumni and their wives. We had a good '29 representation to greet, honor and listen to our outgoing — in time and spirit - president and classmate and his successor whom he proudly presented, Dr. John G. Kemeny. Members present in addition to John and Chris were Bill and Kay Andres, John and Alice Laffey, Larry and Mary Lougee, Squeek and Loretta Redding, Art and Peggy Rose, Ben and Evelyn Stacy, Hank and Fay Stein, Millard and Marjorie Tucker, John Hubbard, Ollie Holmes, Pres. Randlett, your secretary, et ux. The program which included a Dartmouth portrait with Glee Club accompaniment was excellent.

News from the class has come in steadily through the month from a variety of contributors to whom we and you are indebted. Phil Mayher sent in a N. Y. Times page headlined "Venezuela's Businessmen Speak Their Minds" with Bill Cole's picture and report of confidence in the prosperity of that country and pledging the support of American Chamber of Commerce of Venezuela as its president. Rev. Daniel Crowley, Bishop Archie's son, conducted the service in the Melrose Episcopal Church recently and among the congregation were Ben and Evelyn Stacy who reported that he preached a fine sermon. Bob Monahan has furnished the front page of "The Dartmouth" 2/9/70 showing a tall man with a short shovel as President Dickey worked on his 25th Winter Carnival Statue, an established Hanover tradition. Charlie Dudley writes regarding my reference to Whittier that his grandmother was a sister of Whittier, but he preferred Longfellow "because he wrote about Indians." Hal Leich reports from Washington that it's good to have Harris Huston back in town after his overseas service with the State Department. He is in the same building with Hal who is, I believe, still with the U.S. Civil Service Commission. He says that he had a Dartmouth reunion at Christmas with his two sons, Harry '67 - a research assistant in Eastern European languages at University of Illinois - and son, Jeff 71.

What's happening in the securities industry, was the subject of Alfred Seaber's talk to the Memphis Rotary Club luncheon on January 14. Al is a New York executive partner for Goodbody and Company in charge of marketing services group and long-range planning committee. Who wouldn't like some enlightment on his subject? A copy of John Manville's attractive and impressive annual report with a card, "Compliments of Herbert Morton Ball, vice-president, general counsel, and secretary" attached, arrived in our mail box yesterday, reminding us of spring chores and house repairs. Only one thing missing in it, Herb - your picture on or between the covers. Bob Brinkerhoff has been made a partner in William E. Hill and Company, international management consultants. Bob joined the firm in 1961 moving East from the Chicago office of Young and Rubicam where he was vice-president. He lives in Darien where our son Peter '60 resides. John Brown Cook of Hamden, Conn., chairman and director of Whitney Blake Co., has been appointed to the Board of Overseers of Thayer School of Engineering opening up a new avenue for service to Dartmouth adding to his other contributions including heading up the Medical School's ten million dollar drive in 1960.

April 16, 1970 is the date - 5:30 p.m., Cocktails, 7:15, Dinner is the time; Dartmouth Club, N.Y.C. is place - for '29 Class Dinner. Jack Gunther says that Johnand Chris Dickey have accepted the invitation to be present and the committee hopes to make it as memorable an occasion as the 1945 Dinner which so many of us vividly remember.

When April's Ides have past Your taxes paid at last, Come and spend your final cent Toasting out our President. Join '29ers and recall Forty-five's incoming brawl.
