President's Speaking Trip
March 1946

PRESIDENT DICKEY, ACCOMPANIED by the Executive Officer of the College, Albert I. Dickerson '3O, will meet with Dartmouth men in several major alumni centers in the next few weeks. Unable to leave Hanover for extensive periods of travel this year because of pressure of duties at the College, the President will, however, address several large gatherings of alumni. His schedule of alumni meetings began February 27 at the annual banquet of the Boston Association. On March 5 he will meet with the alumni of southern and central New Hampshire at a Hotel Carpenter banquet in Manchester, where William H. McCarter 'l9, director of athletics, will also represent the College on the speaking program.

Accompanied by Mr. Dickerson, President Dickey will open a series of meetings in the middle west on March 18. The schedule, given in the complete table in an adjoining column, includes Cleveland, March 18; Detroit, March 20; Denver, March 22; Minneapolis and St. Paul, March 26; Chicago, March 29; and Milwaukee, March 30.

After returning to Hanover at the end of the month, the President will go to Philadelphia for a Dartmouth banquet on April 9, when Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, will also be a speaker. The metropolitan dinner and annual meeting of Dartmouth men in New York City will be held at the Hotel Commodore April 11 when Mr. Dickey will be the principal speaker. Traditional dinners of Class Agents, in preparation for the Alumni Fund campaign, will be addressed by President Dickey in Chicago, March 28, in New York, April 10, and in Boston, April 12.

Although it is not possible for Mr. Dickey to leave New England for additional alumni meetings this spring he will speak in May at several annual gatherings of Dartmouth groups within driving distance of Hanover. Beginning with the weekend of June 7-8, when the Alumni Council and class officers will meet at the College, the President will be fully occupied until late summer with Commencement June 28-29, and successive class weekends when 6,000 or more alumni are expected to return to Hanover for the reunion programs. A reception by President and Mrs. Dickey and a meeting of the General Alumni Association in Webster Hall, with an address to the alumni by the new head of the College, are scheduled for each of the six alumni weekends from June 28 to August 2.
