THE CUSTOMARY term-end convocation of the Navy Unit was held in Webster Hall on Sunday afternoon, February 17, and was featured by the first commissioning ceremony held at the College since the start of the Navy program. Among the 27 men who received the Bachelor's degree after eight terms at the Thayer School, 18 also received commissions as Ensigns from Captain E. R. Durgin, USN, Director of Training of the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, who gave the principal address. President Dickey conferred the degrees and also spoke briefly.

Jesse Chadwell '47, USNR, spoke on behalf of the graduating men. During the exercises Captain Cummings, commanding officer of Unit, conferred the Bronze Star medal upon Lt. H. Scott Taylor '39, USNR, and also upon Pvt. Frederick W. Maloney '49 MC. Five Marines in the graduating class will receive commissions later. The four civilians who received the Bachelor of Science degree were Roy Edward Chenderlin, Cincinnati, Ohio; Leo Leland Cunningham, Grand Island, Neb.; Albert Joseph Schmidt, St. Albans, N. Y.; and Albert Guy Wilson Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.

Men of the civilian senior class scheduled to graduate after the February exam- examinations voted last month to defer the conferring of their diplomas until the first postwar Commencement on June 28-29. Most members of the midyear class will return to Hanover at that time, and others will receive their sheepskins by mail.

A Senior Reception for the Thayer School graduates, sixty civilian seniors, and all 7th and Bth term NROTC students finishing in February was given by President and Mrs. Dickey in Thayer Hall on the afternoon of February 16.
