Meryll L. Frost '44, 1945 football captain and probably Dartmouth's most renowned veteran of World War 11, was again honored on March 18 by the presentation of a Certificate of Merit from the Tub Thumpers of America, Inc. The award was made in recognition of the outstanding work done by Frost as an inspira- tion to wounded veterans. The citation read as follows: "Courageous football captain of Dartmouth College, in recognition of the everlasting inspiration he provided for wounded war heroes, of which he was a shining example."
The presentation was made by "Whitey" Fuller at the March 18 session of spring football practice. Frost made a spirited speech to the aspirants of Dartmouth's 1946 eleven.
Frost stands with Karl Compton, President of M. I. T. (for atomic bomb research), Commander James O'Callahan, chaplain hero of the U.S.S. Franklin, and Ben Ames Williams '10, noted author, as one of the few men in this country to be awarded this citation for achievement in World War 11. He previously received an award from the Maxwell Club of Philadelphia as "the most courageous athlete of the year." Secretary of War Patterson recently named Frost to the veterans' committee which will study charges of discrimination against non-commissioned personnel in the Army.
