TENTATIVE ENROLLMENT figures for the Spring Term which opened March 11 give a total of 1,995 civilian and Navy students, as compared with last term's enrollment of 1,741. This total is broken down into 1,381 civilians and 614 officer candidates of the NROTC and V-12 Unit.
Civilians this term include 546 veterans who have just returned to their Dartmouth studies, 123 veterans newly enrolled as freshmen, and 16 veteran transfers, giving a total of 685 new veterans and a grand total of approximately 1,000 now in College. Among other civilians are 517 upperclassmen back from last term, 123 secondterm freshmen, 36 second-year Tuck men, and 17 second-year medical students.
The enrollment for the Navy Unit, now in its ninth and final term at Dartmouth, includes 354 NROTC students, 191 V-5 aviation candidates, and 69 Marines.
Among the veterans enrolled for the Spring Term, 130 are married and many of these have children as well as wives with them in Hanover. The Sachem Village development of 48 prefabricated houses, scheduled to be ready for occupancy at the start of the term, has been delayed because of lack of materials, the weather and labor problems; and temporarily the married veterans who will live in Sachem Village are occupying Lord Hall. The College hopes to have most of the houses ready by April. Middle Fayerweather and South Fayerweather Halls continue to house other married veterans.
