DEAN NEIDLINGER'S invasion of the Puget Sound Country was a great success. On Wednesday evening, April 3, at the Rainier Club in Seattle, the Dartmouth Association of Washington had the largest gathering of Dartmouth men which has assembled in Seattle since the last time President Hopkins was here. The Dean made an excellent talk, explaining the problems which face the College as it reconverts to a peacetime basis, and particularly explaining the problem presented by the large numbers of men who are clamoring for admission. His forthrightness and earnestness and his complete frankness in recognizing the problems made a very fine impression and made it possible for all of the local alumni to explain to perfectly eligible youngsters just why they can't get in this year.
The Dean had expressed two hopes—one, that during his Seattle visit he might make a sentimental journey to the University of Washington stadium, which he helped to dedicate in 1920 (a dedication game which Washington alumni have never forgotten), and two, that he might ski above the timber line. Both hopes were realized. On the day of his arrival, April 3, he saw the stadium, and on the next day John Beranek '20 took him up to Paradise on Mt. Rainier, where he got in a couple hours'of spring skiing.
Since this dinner marked a resumption of regular activities which were suspended during the war years because of food and gasoline rationing, it seemed appropriate to elect new officers. George C. Nickum '31, of Seattle, is the new President of the Dartmouth Association of Washington; J. Arthur Thompson '27, of Tacoma, is the new Vice President; Albert C. Boncutter '32, of Seattle, is the new Secretary; and Frederick T. Haley '35, of Tacoma, is the new Treasurer.
