THE DARTMOUTH COLLEGE Athletic Council closed its fiscal year June 30 with an operating profit of $16,800.05, almost double the 1945-46 surplus. Capital expenditures, however, of $21,836.13 caused a net loss in the General Fund of §4,238.88. The net worth of the Council on June 30 was $39,647.50.
According to the annual report released by Director of Athletics William H. McCarter '19, the operating income in round figures jumped from $182,000 in 1945-46 to $318,000 last year. Notable increases were football ($100,000), basketball ($17,000) and hockey ($13,000). Football income was the greatest since 1929.
Expenses, however, increased from $174,000 in 1945-46 to $301,000 during the last fiscal year. The return of freshman sports added $19,000 to the year's expenses.
Capital expenditures were for stadium repairs, a freshman diamond, new bleachers, and tennis court fences.
