WITH THE ARRIVAL of the summer months, the formal activities of the Association were recessed. As a consequence, the first note to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE in the fall finds no recent Association conclaves to report. The officers have been busy all summer, however, and the coming season promises to be a full one.
Before this actually appears in print, there will have been held at the Boston City Club, on the eve of the Harvard football game, an old-fashioned rally, following the class dinners, which are customary that evening. This rally used to be an annual event in by-gone years.... but has not been held heretofore within the memory of your present scribe. Here is a hope that many attend and find a truly fine evening. It will be reinstated as a regular event on our schedule if that proves to be the case.
On November 15, when Cornell plays Dartmouth at Hanover, a special train.... up and back the same day.... complete with dinners and all accoutrements, will be run, thanks to the kind cooperation of Ned French '06 and the Boston and Maine railroad. We hope this will make it possible for many of you to see that game.
The possibility of a social event prior to the turn of the year is being considered carefully. It would be of the "and lady" type .... possibly a dance.... and would provide some sort of a compensation for the Dartmouth wives and sweethearts who miss so many "stag" Dartmouth functions these seasons. The hurdles to such an affair appear numerous from this distance, but we're trying! Watch for future announcements.
The annual dinner is scheduled for the first part of February; there will be further announcements regarding it in due time.
When all is said and done, however, we can't do any more than arrange these functions for them as comes and partakes. It is literally true: "The more the merrier!" So come one, come all! It will be mighty good to see you again and exchange news of the summer and reminiscences of old times!
Providence Luncheons Dartmouth alumni of Rhode Island will hold luncheons on the second Friday of every month at the Turk's Head Club, Providence, at 12:30, starting Friday, November 14. Alumni visitors welcome.
