Christmas coming up and Santa Claus has already been nice to ye ed by supplying us with lots of news.
One of our last holdouts, Tom Leggatt, finally took the plunge when he and Barbara Anne Boyle came back down the aisle man and wife. Tom's brother John was best man and his other brother Dick was head usher - along with Roger Cameron, Bill Conway, Dick Drury, Richard Fernald, and Waiter Reilly. The bride attended Wells College, Aurora, N. Y., and for the past 2½ years she has worked in the Biochemistry Research Department at the Harvard Medical School and, believe it or not, belongs to the Harvard Club. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Tom has been practicing law and belongs to the Union Boat Club and the Tennis and Racquet Club. Barbara and Tom now reside at 26 Chestnut Street, Boston, Mass.
Two notes on Lee Alexander: One - he was made a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society for which he deserves congratulations since it's quite an honor. Lee was recently promoted to assistant actuary for the American Mutual Liability Insurance Company in their home office in Wakefield, Mass. In addition, he has just been appointed to the finance committee of North Reading, Mass. - showing that you don't have to be a lawyer to serve your community.
Speaking of Wakefield, Mass„ Lee's company's home office - it is readily seen that the high schoolers of Wakefield are about to lose the benefits of guidance counseling from our own Bill Callagy; Bill having taught at the Wakefield High School for the past 13 years during which time he has done guidance work for two hours daily, enabling him to be elected guidance counselor for Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Mass. At Dartmouth, Bill majored in mathematics and minored in education and had 12 hours in guidance studies. In 1951, he was awarded his master's degree.... Congratulations, Bill.
Another GE employee, Joe Lovell, has been named chairman of the publicity committee for the 1964 Schenectady Community Chest campaign. Joe is manager of advertising personnel development department at GE and has been very active in Community Chest in former years. He received his master's degree from Boston University and joined GE in 1951. He has held many advertising and managerial positions, including copywriter, account supervisor, manager of distribution, and manager of the exhibit operation. He was promoted to his present position in 1963. A member of the Association of National Advertisers, Joe is an active member in Dartmouth's National Enrollment Committee and Alumni Association. He also has been very active in Boy Scouting. Joe lives with his wife, the former Theo Cox of Gloucester, Mass., and four children at 1545 Keyes Avenue, Niskayuna, N. Y.
Although the elections around the country have been fairly well reported, we would like to hear from Don Evans on what he and his wife did as campaign organizers for William Weeks who was the Republican candidate for State Senate in Massachusetts. Don is a partner with the law firm of Good-win, Proctor and Hoar in Boston. He is chairman of a zoning advisory committee to the Cohasset Planning Board, former chairman of the United Fund, and former president of the South Shore Dartmouth Club. Mr. and Mrs. Evans and their two children live at 324 South Main Street, Cohasset. May we hear how it all came out, Don?
News from the far West. San Diego area tells us that Ed Miller has just been appointed assistant city attorney of that metropolis. Ed has for several years been the city's legal expert in utility matters as a senior deputy, representing the city in rate matters before the state Public Utilities Commission. He is experienced as a deputy in the criminal division of the attorney's office. For a short time after graduation, Ed served as freshman track coach, although his present activities are limited to tennis and golf. He and his wife, Barbara and son Stephen live at 418 Van Dyke Avenue, Delmar, Calif.
Saw many '47's at the Dartmouth-Yale game (wait till next year) - including Al Goldstein, Dave Stahl, Al Bildner, Norm Fink, and Bob Kirsch, who is finally giving up the pleasures of the city for the beauties of the country and has moved to Chappaqua, N. Y.
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS....
