THE COMBINING OF the 53rd annual Dartmouth Night in Hanover, October 10, with a Penn game rally proved to be highly successful. Although the team failed to beat the favored Quakers the following afternoon, its spirited play might well have been an echo of the speeches and cheers given from the steps of Dartmouth Hall the night before.
Included on the program were President Dickey, Coach McLaughry, Football Captain Jud Hannigan '46 and Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College. James E. O'Neil '46 of Wellesley, Mass., president of Palaeopitus, was master of ceremonies.
The festivities opened with a torchlight parade of freshmen around the campus and ended with a large bonfire. An informal reception was given afterwards by President and Mrs. Dickey and Dean and Mrs. Morrison in the Alumni Gym for members of the faculty and staff.
Telegrams of greeting from the following Dartmouth alumni clubs were read by Mr. Hayward: Berkshire County, Boston, Bridgeport, Central Pennsylvania, Central New Jersey, Cheshire County, Chicago, Cleveland, Central Ohio, Connecticut, Detroit, Elmira, France, Hartford, Hawaii, Houston, Louisiana, Lowell, Maine.
Also, Nashua, Naugatuck, Conn., New Britain, New York, Northern California and Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Philadelphia, Qubec, Rochester, St. Paul, Southern California, Springfield, Vt., Utica, Virginia, Washington, D. C., Wellesley, Western Connecticut, Western Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Worcester.
