PRESIDENT HOPKINS has been named a director of the new Arctic Institute of North America which was established in September to study and promote the development of the Arctic regions after the war. The Institute's 12-man board is evenly divided between representatives of the United States and Canada, with Mr. Hopkins as one of the four members serving three-year terms. Other board members represent the National Research Council, Canada's Department of External Affairs, U. S. Geological Survey, the Smithsonian Institution, the Hudson Bay Company, Canada's Department of Mines and Resources, the University of Alberta, and the Institute of Current World Affairs in New York. Dr. Vilhjalmur Stefansson, noted Arctic explorer, is also a board member.

In the meetings preliminary to the establishment of the Arctic Institute, Dean Bill and Professor Trevor Lloyd of Dartmouth both played prominent roles along with President Hopkins.

This new directorship and the chair- manship of Americans United for World Organization are made the basis for a life story of President Hopkins which appears in the October issue of Current Biography.
