After 25 years as Superintendent of Schools in West Hartford, Conn., Leroy H. Bugbee '12 recently announced his intention to retire effective September 1, 1947. Previous to his appointment as Superintendent he had been principal of West Hartford High School. Despite strenuous pleas by the Board of Education for him to reconsider his resignation, Dr. Bugbee remained steadfast in his resolve, and the Board passed a resolution which said, in part "we....
adopt this resolution .... to record our appreciation of his services, our heartfelt good wishes for his future, our official and personal esteem for him as educator, fellow townsman and friend."
The Hartford Times, in an editorial following the announcement of Dr. Bugbee's impending retirement, said, "Dr. Bugbee is more than merely an educator. Perhaps it should be said that he is an educator in the broadest sense. He is an all-around, broad gauge citizen. His horizons are wide and his interests manifold All of these things and probably others which are not mentioned add up to the reasons why it will be with the greatest reluctance that West Hartford will see Dr. Bugbee leave its schools and be dismayed at the task of finding an adequate successor."
