Coach Karl Michael's charges started the new year by winning handsomely from Army 49-26, with the Indians winning six of the nine first places. The goo-yard medley relay was won by the Green swimmers, Dana Jackson, Charlie Solber, and Jay Urstadt. Captain Marty Anderholm won the 220-yard free style, while Dick Howe won the 50-yard free style. Ed Tevald easily won the fancy dive. In the 100-yard free style, Dartmouth came through with a first and second, with Dick Hartung and Rollie Higgins taking the honors in that order. The 150-yard back stroke was won by Dana Jackson, while Solberg won the 440-yard free style.
The second meet of the new year saw the Indians continue their winning ways, this time against Columbia, whom they defeated by the almost identical score of 50- 25. Seven out of nine first places this time went to the Green, with the blue ribbons distributed as follows: the 300-yard medley team of Dodd, Urstadt, and Norton won this initial event, followed by the 220-yard free style victory of Captain Marty Anderholm. In the 50-yard free style, there was a tie between a Columbia man and Dartmouth's Dick Howe. Ed Tevald came through again in his specialty, the fancy dive, in which he has comparatively few peers in these parts. The 100-yard free style was won by the versatile Dana Jackson, who also won the 150-yard back stroke. The breast stroke was negotiated in winning time by Jack Plummer and the 440-yard free style by Jay Urstadt. Columbia's sole unclouded win was in the 440-yard relay, in which we apparently are not so sharp. These two victories in a row as we go to press should go far to lighten the mantle of care on the broad and capable shoulders of Coach Michael.
