Courtmen End Losing Streak with Win Over Penn; Hockey Team Rates Among the Best in Green History
IT WILL DOUBTLESS come as a rude shock to those of our readers whom circumstances render out of touch with the metropolitan eastern press to learn that, after winning their first four games, the basketball team lost the next eight in succession. Six of these consecutive defeats marked the Christmas trip (see below) and the Indians continued their unaccustomed losing ways in the first two games of the Ivy League season (against Princeton and Columbia). As this column goes to press, the team has just risen from the floor and delivered a haymaker which knocked a highly favored Penn team completely through ropes with an astonishing 72-53 triumph. This was the first home game since our last victory on December 18 against Brown. Judging by the intervening month (the Penn game was on January 18) the boys should never have left home. We shall give you a brief account of the EIL season to date, culminating in the Penn game, and then flash back to the disastrous Christmas trip.
