THE BOSTON ALUMNI held their annual dinner at the Copley Plaza Hotel, Wednesday evening, February 26. Approximately 900 were in attendance at the meeting over which President Howard A. Stockwell '17 presided.
The group started gathering at the Wheelock Tavern at sightly after 5:00 p.m. The evening formally was opened by the singing of one verse of "Men of Dartmouth by representatives of the College Glee Club and by the invocation given by the Right Rev.Donald Aldrich '17, Dean-Elect of the chapel at Princeton.
President Stockwell read a message to the meeting which he had received from PresidentEmeritus Hopkins. We here in Boston are no different from other alumni groups in the deep affection we have for Hoppy. We always looked forward to his coming to the Boston meetings and have missed him these last two years when he has been unable to attend. It meant a great deal to us that he was with us in spirit, although his present service to his country prevented his being there in person.
Following dinner and a brief business meeting, we were privileged to hear Frank B. Wallis '25 tell of some of the experiences at the recent Nurnberg trials which he witnessed as one of this country's prosecutors. This was a most interesting and instructive talk which should be "required listening" not only for all Dartmouth alumni but for all loyal and patriotic Americans.
President Dickey was the final speaker of the evening. He opened his talk by telling us some of the experiences of the past year in Hanover, a news review which always is much appreciated and much enjoyed by the Boston Alumni. He then went on to discuss certain problems facing the world and our nationand the Dartmouth is making by training young men to recognize these problems and to face them. He mentioned particularly the added responsibilities carried by the citizens of this country at the present time, because of the development of atomic power and the needs for more highly developed moral and political leaders to manage this new and great physical power.
The next event on our calendar is the annual Dartmouth night at the Pops Concert which is scheduled for Wednesday evening, May 2i. We know many of you will want to circle this date on your calendar now.
