After scoring an impressive victory in their own Carnival meet, the Dartmouth skiers, minus Captain Phil Puchner and Malcolm McLane, finished second behind Middlebury in the I.S.U. meet in the Laurentians over the weekend of March 1. Puchner was competing in the Nationals at Ogden and Alta, where he took a creditable fifth in the downhill against an international field. In the same competition, John Litch- field '39, former Green captain, finished sixth and Colin Stewart '4B was seventh.

In the Olympic tryouts at Sun Valley on March 8-9, Stewart became a strong candidate for a place on the U. S. team with a fifth in the combined downhillslalom. Puchner finished out of the running in 26th place. In the international Harriman Cup races at Sun Valley the next weekend, Stewart was tenth in the combined, but sixth among the American racers.

Top Dartmouth ski news in March was the selection of Walter Prager, Green ski coach for the past ten years, as downhill and slalom coach of the 1948 U. S. Olympic ski team.
