THE FORMATION of a new Public Relations Council, authorized as the active and executive body on all of the public relations policies of Dartmouth College was announced last month by President Dickey. Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of Dartmouth College, was named by President Dickey to the chairmanship of the Council.
Other members of the Council are: Albert I. Dickerson '30, Director of Admissions; William H. McCarter '19, Director of Athletics; Charles E. Widmayer '30, Editor of the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE and Director of the News Service; and David L. Heald '42, Manager of the Hanover Inn.
James L. Farley '42, Assistant Director of the Dartmouth College News Service, will serve as acting secretary of the Council and will now be largely responsible for the work of the News Service office, while still serving as Assistant Editor of the MAGAZINE.
In conjunction with the formation of the Council, the Dartmouth Alumni Council has appointed three alumni advisory members. They are: John C. Sterling '11, president of Publication Corporation; John W. Hubbell '21, assistant to the president of Simmons Company, and Howard M. Booth '24, general manager of the Worcester Telegram.
One of the Council's major objectives will be to secure wider public attention for the educational life of the College. Plans and policies will be developed by the Public Relations Council for strengthening Dartmouth's relationships with all of the different groups most interested in the College—undergraduates and their families, the Hanover community and surrounding region, the alumni body, prospective students and secondary schools, and the general public.
In planning its activities the Council will seek the active participation of undergraduates working on The Dartmouth, DBS, the Press Club, the DOC and COSO.
