THE ANNUAL SPRING DINNER was held May 8th at the Burlington Hotel. 150 stalwarts of the Dartmouth Club of Washington turned out to hear a talk by President John SloanDickey '29 and enjoy one of the grandest parties held here in many moons. I know that sounds silly; we've been using superlatives to describe every party this year—but no matter how you look at them, either individually or collectively, only superlatives can be used in describing them.
President Dickey, introduced by Percy Russell '29, highlighted the program when he spoke of the College physically, its undergraduates, its admissions problem with emphasis on sons of Dartmouth men, and the fraternity situation. Also on the program, so ably whomped up by Lowell ("United, Airlines, that is") Haas '35 in his status as Committee Chairman, appeared Chuck Grant '39 and the famed Dartmouth Club Quartet, Harry Baker the magician extraordinary, and Sterling Wilson '16 and his Barbershop Quartet. Among the many Dartmouth-Washington luminaries on hand to welcome President Dickey, we noticed Major General Willard S. Paul '16, who is Assistant to the Chief of Staff G-i U. S. Army; John L. Sullivan 'si, the Under Secretary of the Navy; Congressman Jay LeFevrr '18 of New York; Congressman Ellsworth Buck '14 of New York; Congressman Chester Merrow of New Hampshire; Nelson Smith '21, Chairman of the Federal Power Commission; and ColonelWilliam A. Eddy '19 of the State Department.
On the weekend of May 16-17, Larry Reeves '33 went to Hanover and returned with a fine report on the annual meeting of the Alumni Club Secretaries. Mr. Reeves has submitted some sort of expense account to the Executive Committee which has approved it pending his receipt of the "Outstanding Club Secretary" award from the College which Barry Sullivan '36 received last year.
On May 24 the Dartmouth Club of Washington Quartet journeyed to Richmond to as- sist in the program for the Dartmouth Club of Richmond. Many Washington men joined them in making the trip and all remarked about the gracious hospitality extended them in Richmond. The Quartet includes, in addition to Director Chuck Grant '39, Joe Huber '40, Brad Cole '43, and Mickey Beall C & PTC '24.
