WE HAD six men at the April 21 luncheon with a particular Dartmouth Club activity as their common interest. Their names: Bill Yelverton '36, Page Worthington '33, Ed McCutcheon '31, John Pendleton '15, Martin Brand '26 and Bill Shaughnessy '33. Their common activity—these men comprised the Dartmouth Club of Washington Bowling Team. The reason for their presence en masse, to report to the other club members their successful defense of their Bowling crown for the 1946-47 season. Last season our team won their third and final leg on the silver trophy, there-by retiring same. This year they continued their winning ways by gaining first leg on the new trophy and one year possession of it.
After winning the first half of the season's play, the Big Green dropped the second stanza to the University of Maryland. A victory over the Terps in a roll-off was necessary to win the title. Much of the credit for the roll-off must go to Bill Shaughnessy '33. Bill carried a 96 average into this engagement and proceeded to amaze his teammates and break the spirit of the opposition by rolling three straight games over lOO—the last of which was an astounding 160! Congratulations to Bill, Captain Bill Yelverton and the other members of the team.
April 29th we heard from Professor RobertCarr '39 who is in Washington on leave of absence from the College to serve as ExecutiveSecretary on President Truman's Civil Rights Committee. Bob spoke on his work with the Committee, the aims and methods of the Committee. It certainly was good listening and we hope Bob will be with us often.
The only thing of interest to report at this time is that there are tentative plans for a picnic to be held during the summer and weekly luncheons will be continued during the summer in the air-conditioned New Athens Restaurant every Tuesday at 12:30 P.M.
