THROUGH the generosity of Allerton C. Hickmott '17 of Hartford, Conn., the Friends of the Dartmouth Library have received 21 first editions of the works of James Branch Cabell together with a few finely illustrated books. Two of the Cabells, The Rivet in Grandfather's Neck and Jurgen, are inscribed presentation copies. Seven of the others are limited signed editions. Mr. Cabell supplemented this interesting gift with a six-page heavily annotated holograph manuscript.
In their summer report, the Friends of the Dartmouth Library listed recent gifts from Mrs. Bella C. Landauer, Arthur L. Gale '27, Erskine Caldwell, Dr. Robert M. Stecher '19, Kenneth Roberts, George Matthew Adams, Dr. H. Sheridan Baketel '95m, H. N. Carver '28, Ben Ames Williams '10, and Paul Sample '20.
