Super Early Bird
To THE EDITOR: Your early bird in the November issue wasn't quite early enough! Still first on Main Street, though this year retired from active teaching, is Professor Leland (bring 'em back alive) Griggs '02, well known to a host of Dartmouth graduates as perpetrator of "Zoo" 17 and one-time poker-faced wit and raconteur. Though this early bird wouldn't really know, Griggs is said to reach his office at dawn and to use his 7 a.m. expedition to the paper store as a mid-morning stroll.
And according to my book there are others to be included. There's the Gold Dust Twins, Al Waterman and Bert Sargent, Chief Engineer and Assistant Engineer respectively. There's Maxie, genial representative of the Busted and Mangled, ready at the drop of even an early hat to route you to White River Junction or San Diego. And usually somewhere in the offing is Nugget Manager Art Barwood, who also helps the nighthawks roll up the sidewalks. But that's another page in The Hanover Scene.

Served in Two Wars
To THE EDITOR: With regard to the obituary of William Uehlein '26, I notice that it refers to Bill's service in the armed forces in World War II, but no mention is made of the fact that he also served and saw action in World War I. In view of the fact that he served in both wars, which is a distinction probably enjoyed by comparatively few alumni, particularly the post-war classes, I thought this ought to be called to your attention and to the attention of Bill's many friends and acquaintances.
