THE HAYWARDS came down the coast from the Pacific North West in a rain cloud, March 24, 1948—welcome to sun-dried, power-restricted, daylight saving San Francisco—the Haywards as well as the rain.

With Wellesley hospitality extended to Barbara, Sidney was left to alumni meetings on affairs of the College and the big event at the University Club, our annual association dinner. SOME MEETING! We planned for 75 and exactly 107 alumni, applicants, and fathers showed up proving that Dartmouth in California truly was glad to see the secretary of secretaries.

Following the preliminary sand most enjoyable informal chatter, we were all seated for dinner, with the assistance of a few side tables. After dinner retiring president BRANT McCULLOUGH '31 asked RITCHIE SMITH '26 to give us the lowdown on his former roommate in the 20's. With this brief introduction our guest of honor took one look at the view from our banquet room overlooking San Francisco Bay; clouds breaking revealing a full moon over the Bay Bridge and inland hills. Thus inspired, Mr. Hayward carried us back to Hanover with one of the most satisfying talks illustrated with his colored slides of Hanover, places and personalities.

While Sid's talk was the major dividend from the meeting, we should probably add in passing that a business meeting of the club was also held with the pre-war-steam-roller tactics resulting in the present officers for the new year: JOHN V. (JACK) BAER '17, president; ROBERT C. WHITE '41, vice-president; B. L. WINSLOW '20, secretary and treasurer; WILLIAM S. DANFORTH '41, assistant secretary. A few comments were made on the following subjects of general interest to the association—Placement of Dartmouth Men, NAASSON YOUNG '17-D.O.C. of Northern California, CARL WARD '32-the Hopkins Center Project, LINCOLN WILSON '13. Throughout the early part of the evening JACK SLATTERY'S '38 record player was doing its duty on Dartmouth songs, later to be substituted with the Petrillo type, FRANK NEWMAN '38 at the piano and DAVE SMITH '35 leading. Decorations were through the courtesy of BAXTER BALL '31, cherry blossoms with a small replica of General Petroleum's Flying Horse hanging from a lower limb.

It was good to see some Eastern association representatives present: CODDING '21 from New York, PLOWMAN '20 from Pittsburgh, and FISH '18 from Tuscon.

Forty-one classes answered the roll call starting with 1897 and a solid representation from 1925. Here they are:

Thanks Sid Hayward for coming West. Since the annual meeting our attendance at our Wednesday weekly luncheons has jumped to twenty-five.
