THE COLLEGE'S 179th Commencement program will open Friday, June 11, with Class Day exercises at 4 p.m. on the campus. Following a 7:30 concert by the Dartmouth Band, a garden reception will be given at the home of President and Mrs. Dickey for seniors, parents, faculty, alumni and guests. Friday's program will conclude with a concert by the Glee Club at 9:30 p.m. in Webster Hall and a dance in the Alumni Gym starting at 10 p.m.

A luncheon will be held Saturday noon in Alumni Gym for seniors, their fathers, faculty members and alumni. Classes holding reunions on Commencement weekend are 1883, 1888, 1893, 1898 and 1923.

The Saturday afternoon program includes a Dartmouth-Maryland baseball game, a showing of Dartmouth movies in 105 Dartmouth Hall, and an organ recital by Prof. Maurice F. Longhurst at 4 in Rollins Chapel.

A second concert by the Band will be given at 8 p.m. Saturday on the campus, with a second showing of Dartmouth movies scheduled for the same time in 105 Dartmouth Hall. The Dartmouth Players' production of Thurber's The Male Animal will be presented at 9:15 p.m. in Webster Hall.

The combined Commencement and Baccalaureate Exercises will be held Sunday morning at 11 in the Bema, weather permitting. In case of rain the exercises will be postponed until 5 p.m. and will be held in the Bema or, in case of rain, in Webster Hall.

Class Valedictorian for the 1948 Commencement s Francis R. Drury Jr. '48 of Norwich, Vt., and the Class Marshals are Robert L. Merriam '48 of Greenfield, Mass.; James E. O'Neil '46 of Wellesley, Mass., and C. James Schaefer '48 of Summit, N. J.

NEW ALUMNI COUNCILLORS: John R. Mason '15 (left), chosen to represent the Class Agents Association, and John E. Morrison Jr. '36, representative of the class treasurers. Both will serve 3-year terms.
