Ed McNeil was unanimously elected captain of baseball for next year, thereby being one of the comparatively few men in recent memory to be captain of the same sport two years in a row. Ed interrupted his college career (he entered with the Class of 1944) very early to go off to the wars. His return left him with most of his school work (and all of his varsity competition) ahead of him. He has been a tower of quiet strength at second base and his leadership has done much to contribute to the League championship of the Green Captain-elect Jim Burnham has a better-than-average chance to represent the United States in the Olympic Games this summer. One of the half-dozen leading performers in the country in his specialty (the hammer throw), Jim may follow in the footsteps of such famed Green track and field Olympians as Metcalfe (in the javelin throw), Earl Thompson (the old timber-topper), Laddie Myers (in the pole vault) and others The outstanding record of the freshman class (1951) in practically all sports was apparent in track also. Coach Ellie Noyes has several outstanding prospects among his yearling aggregation, perhaps the brightest being Captain Krivitsky, who set a freshman record in the 220 yard dash Captain-elect of the lacrosse team is Don Scully, who piled up 43 goals from his midfield position this season to run second in scoring to Hammy Gates..... Arnie Kramer was elected captain of tennis for the coming year and Bill Tarlow was chosen to lead Coach Tommie Keane's surprising golfers for the 1949 season. John Helsell is the new captain of crew. .... And the next time this column appears, football will be in the air.
