PICKEN ON THE INJURED LIST
MAY 1930

The greatest loss the team suffered was the inability of Ed Picken to report. Picken, who injured his foot at the close of the basketball season, was the regular second baseman last year, and following in the footsteps of his brother Jim as a baseball player. Picken at this writing has just reported, but will still be unavailable for the next week at best, but when he does play, Dartmouth's chances will be materially brighter for league games.

Looking over the personnel of the Eastern League, all of the clubs present strong teams. It is also an interesting fact that almost all of them stack up against major or minor league professional teams as a part of their Spring training, and we understand that Dartmouth will do the same next fall. One rumor says that it will be the Baltimore Orioles and another says that an engagement with the world champion Philadelphia Athletics just missed out by a hair this season.

Down at Penn they have potential champions in the making. With such fine hurlers as Peterson and Walter Masters as well as a veteran outfit, they seem set for the season. Columbia possesses four men who average .399 in their lineup, and Yale has two pitchers in Rudd and Thompson who are first-class. Princeton and Cornell are yet untested, but Boies has returned at the latter school and he is a fine pitcher.

For the first time within memory, Yale and Princeton will be visitors to the Hanover field this year, and it was in the year 1886 that the last league game at New Haven was played with Yale.

The baseball season will be ripe when the next issue goes to press, and more details can be given at that time.
