As this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE was about to go to press, the Dartmouth Board of Trustees made the important announcement that Halsey C. Edgerton '06, treasurer of the College, would retire on June 30 of next year and that John F. Meek Jr. '33, attorney of Washington, D. C., had been chosen to succeed him. Mr. Edgerton has been associated with the Treasurer's Office since 1906 and has been treasurer for the past 32 years.
Mr. Meek, graduate and former assistant dean of Yale Law School, is now with the Washington law firm of Douglas, Proctor, Maclntyre and Gates. During the war he served with the Bureau of Naval Personnel and gained a wide knowledge of college and university financing through his work on contracts for the Navy college training programs. In 1946 he was secretary of the special committee, headed by Mr. Edgerton, which devised Dartmouth's present faculty salary policy.
A full account of this important administrative change will appear in the next issue of the MAGAZINE.
