FOOTBALL CAPTAIN

Herb Carey was elected captain of the 1949 Dartmouth football team shortly after the end of the 1948 season. Returning from the wars in 1946, Carey will be playing his fourth season at fullback for the Green next fail, where he has been one of the most consistent operatives both on offense and defense for the last three seasons. Scoring 3 touchdowns and 6 points after touchdown, Carey was fourth among the Green scorers this fall with a total of 24 points. Handicapped by injuries his first two years, he developed a surprising burst of speed this fall, which made him a constant ball-carrying threat on end sweeps and pitchouts, as well as through the middle. His work at backing up the line has been consistently powerful and it will be in this capacity that he will be especially valuable next fall. Herb will make a strong and inspiring leader of a team that may go far.
