The death of Jeff Tesreau will be mourned by the generations of baseball players who served under the genial Sage of the Osark. During his 28 seasons at Dartmouth, Jeff became so completely identified with baseball on the Hanover scene that it will be difficult to think of anyone else sitting in the Green dugout and directing his charges to make a double steal Jeff followed his best friend Harry Hillman by not much more than a year. With these men, Dartmouth has lost coaches who have been identified with two of her major sports for long and glorious periods. With the weight of the genera- tions, their names have assumed a tradi- tional aura difficult to duplicate With the resignation of Ossie Ckjwles to become coach of basketball at Michigan, Dart- mouth loses a third coach of a major sport in the space of a year. While his stay at Dartmouth lasted less than a decade, in comparison to the long tenures of Jeff and Harry, nevertheless Ossie established a precedent of Green supremacy in his chosen sport which his successors will find it hard to surpass.
