I am writing from the Secretary's summer home, "Beach Pines," Saco, Me., where I have been the greater part of the summer.
Just before O'Brien was leaving for La Fonda, Santa Fe, N. M„ the Secretary and Mrs. Rowe had the pleasure of dining with him at the historic Colonial Inn in Concord, Mass. O'Brien is to return East to Washington about the middle of September.
On a trip to New London, N. H., it was a pleasure to meet Stanley and his daughter Margaret. Stanley appeared to be in good health.
It was a pleasure for both the Secretary and Mrs. Rowe to call on the Healds in Scarboro, where they are living in an old mansion with a cupola top following his retirement at the age of 79 as a superintendent of schools.
The remaining members of the Executive Committee unanimously selected Tewksbury to fill the vacancy created by the death of "Shorty" French.
