Christmas cards have brought lots of news. Lum and Ann Luhman are moving from Richmond, Va., to Raleigh, N. C., with the National Surety Corp. Clint and GeraldineHolton are the proud parents of Joann Ruth, their second girl. George Gerrish and BunHarvey are recent visitors at the Hanover Inn.
Mac McCaffrey has accepted a position with the U. S. Government as a teacher in the Dependents High School in Heidelberg, Germany. He has studied at Harvard, Syracuse, and Columbia universities for his Master's degree. While at Syracuse, he met and later married Margaret Krause, a native of Mannheim, Germany. The couple and their two children are now residing in that city.
Miss Virginia Lewis Craig and BruceMather were engaged this past November. She is a graduate of Tufts College and is working at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Boston. Bruce attended Boston University Law School and is currently employed by the New England Telephone Co. in metropolitan Boston.
Don Shedd and family enjoyed a quiet Christmas in Milwaukee where they have been for several years. Don is working with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., in Business Sales, formerly in their Claims Dept. The Shedds have two girls, Kathy, age 4, and Louise, 2. They expect another addition to the family in April. Don is active in Boy Scout work. He is also looking forward to several weeks in Boston, in January, and until February 10 at the Lincolnshire Hotel.
Len Grimes was elected mayor of Marshalltown, lowa, this past November. Since then he has been devoting a good deal of time to learning the mechanics of city administration and the problems confronting Marshalltown, his home town., He is surprised to find in these days of Civil Service tenure that the Mayor is still responsible for quite a number of appointments, even though in some cases limited to certified lists provided by the Civil Service Commission.
Ed and Sally Byrkit and family, George, Nancy, and Cynthia, have moved to Wisconsin this past year where Ed works with the Wisconsin State Highway Commission. He was first in the field on a highway bridge construction project near Fond du Lac, and later as urban engineer in highway district #2 where he is assisting the plans and surveys engineer, in that district.
Christmas greetings from Rev. Chuck Quinn tell that he was ordained to the priesthood in June 1955. He expects this to be his last year at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D. C., where he has been for at least the past seven years.
Gale and Barry Marks "abandoned the Dartmouth Indian for the Brown Bear" early in 1955, where Barry is teaching American Literature courses and working on a thesis during holidays only. Family members Stephen, Pam, and Tina, a Golden Retriever puppy, maintain a homey atmosphere. DickLash was appointed acting postmaster in his home town o£ Farmersburg, Ind., so we can be sure he was kept busy during the Christmas season. Dr. Dick Small is a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at NYU-Bellvue Medical College and also an assistant in obstetrics and gynecology on the faculty of NYU Medical College. Son Steven and wife Sally complete the family. Dick tells of seeing Dick Conroy who is enjoying himself as a resident in medicine.
Neil "Carolina" Beard continues as account executive for Merrill Lynch — in Greensboro, N. C. Betsy, 3, Chip, 1, wife Norma and Piper Tri-pacer make up the family. Neil would like to hear from BruceMather, Ed Scully, and Bernie Nelson, 11 W. 28th St., Minneapolis 8, Minn. Dr. RalphBrackett has added his fourth son to his family, Thomas Anthony, on November 10.
Bud Smith is a division freight agent for Boston & Maine Railroad with headquarters in Concord, arid jurisdiction over freight sales and solicitation throughout New Hampshire and portions of Vermont. Bud and Gertrude have one daughter Martha, age 6; and two sons, Dwight, 4, and Eric, 6 months. Bud's hobbies are his 1927 Oldsmobile 6, a huge vegetable garden, and operating his HO-scale model railroad empire, the "Northern Vermont Railway."
Kirt McCaleb is a group leader, Nitrogen Derivatives, Process Development Section, Chemical Research Department, General Mills, Inc. Research Laboratories. The McCalebs had a fine Christmas, Brian and Richard, and "Momma got a washer-dryer combination to make Mondays a little easier to take."
