It was a glorious day at Forest Hills. The largest crowd of a decade was working itself, together with Messers Gonzales and Schroeder, to an indescribable pitch of excitement. .... Schroeder had just made the first break in the 33rd game, apoplectic spectators were sucking on Pepso Bismo, and at such a time when the nimble mechanics of the brain jump out of time and remember unpaid insurance premiums, I recalled that it was September 5 and that this column was supposed to be written and in Hanover. So on this day "set aside for the restful contemplation of the dignity of toil," lam contemplating like a Macy's Day balloon.

There have been no fallen metatarsals among the Scarsdale Postal authorities this summer, but there is still an abundance of good news. Johnny Peacock, vice president of Trans-Air-Hawaii, was recently presented with the DFC and Air Medal with four stars for "heroism and extraordinary achievement" in his role as torpedo bomber. John was engaged in practically every major Pacific operation.

.... Don Oakes was ordained as Episcopal Deacon in Newark last June and has volunteered for Missionary service in Japan Dyer Tulley has recently been promoted to sales representative work in the Building Products Division of Johns Manville Corp. Dyer is living in Ridgewood, N. J. with his wife and child Craig Macßeth is now an M.D. and will intern in his back yard at the range Memorial Hospital Leroy Briggs has donned the scholarly cloaks and is teaching at City College of San Francisco DonBurnham, still with the Navy, out in San Diego doing Neuropsychiatric work which I suppose is something like a curator in a snake pit I think we mentioned before that JoeBuckley is out of the Navy and at civilian residency in Ogdenburg, N. Y "Chuck"Rendigs is a Wall St. broker, while Fred Cohn plies the investments trade in the Buffalo area I had word (three of them to be exact) about Bill Hufstader out in Los Angeles: "Salesman—Buick Type." which could have reference to anything from automobiles to printing presses to Bill's selling ability.

"Doc" Mock is still braided and at the Navy Hospital in Philadelphia, and should be a nice fellow to have about when the goal posts go down after the Penn game From Bad Kissinen, Germany, come notes of international significance from Fritz Hier, who shrewdly observes that 74% of the shoes over there squeak and 100% of the toilets fail to flush. .... Dr. John Shapleigh is practicing in St. Louis Don May is now in Chicago doing optical manufacturing work ... and in a lesser optical vein, Don Wier is in Newark doing quite a job for Bird's-Eye Frozen Foods

Sherm Davis blew in from Milwaukee for a few days; I hear he has eyes for a cute little 200-pounder in Ossining named Beck, but understand that she has other plans on or about October 8 Jim Browning and wife have returned to Hanover where Jim will take up Thayer School studies "Lefty" Bogan has moved up to Golf, 111. and I believe is still with Greyhound Bus His running mate, Dan Donahue, continues hustling the 'Hounds through New England; I think the Bear will have some news for the column soon.

Pinky Corroon failed to make the Walker Cup team this year and is so upset he has threatened to cancel the theft policy on Stranahan's barbells. Joe Goldstein is back in London after a year at Yale .... now attending the London School of Economics .... let's hope he doesn't assimilate too much of Sir Stifford Crapps While perambulating the sands of Cape Cod iij search of birds' eggs this summer, Rocky Davidson stumbled over Dave and Nancy Mills who had just arrived from Chicago for a week's vacation.

This has been a splendid summer for caterers and social reporting; we have 11 weddings and five engagements to announce:

George Cusack and Barbara Greene were married in Pelham recently, Oscar Goedecke in attendance; Oscar, a blase old hand at such things, had already been married for approximately two months and four days to the very lovely Helen Taylor of Upper Montclair; incidentally, Chuck Foster and Susan Harrison were married in Montclair just two weeks before Helen and Oscar; Horace Blood and Gene Pierce were married in a garden ceremony on the shores of Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vt., with Craig Macßeth ushering. Y. C., made known his engagement to Mary Fulton in June; Ross Higier and Dorene Schine also made a June announcement.

Congratulations and very best wishes to all these folks from all of us in the class.

The quiet of a Hanover summer was livened with the return of Don Evans, Craig Barker,Paul Staples, Dick Ettinger, Bob Riebow, DickRanger, Ed Price, the John Handwergs, the Art Soules, the Al Meyers, the Ed Knights from West Va., the Johnny Morses, and, of course, the honeymooning Flynns.

I almost forgot to mention that Benny Jones has an heir, Douglas T! Ben spent a happy vacation in khaki at Plattsburg.... but then I've always said, some of the best salesmen are the worst suckers.
