February 1, at Boston Alumni Association's 102nd Annual Dinner, Bill Cusack for the second time carried off the Class Attendance Prize for 1927 (slight credit to five New Yorkers who swelled '27 attendance to 18, not counting wives). New Yorkers were: Bob Stevens, soon to leave for a G. M. executive visitation to South America after a strenuous Berlitz Spanish course; Sam Wormser who was flying off the following day with Alyce for Madeira, Madrid, sun, golf, and rest prior to again undertaking that big job as '27's Alumni Fund Class Agent; Sid Voice who was sporting (?) one of these neck collars that sufferers from pinched nerves are inflicted with, his spirits were anything but low, however; Doc JackGreener, your N. Y. Region Chairman, who came along as advance agent for 1927's Annual New York Dinner. April 27 is date at New York Dartmouth Club. Big break this year for the girls who are invited for the first time. Number five was yours truly who says to other 1927ers — try to take in this annual Boston dinner, worth a trip, 1100 were there and a great program. Boston is easy to get to - left White Plains, N. Y., office at 12,— stopped for leisurely lunch and into Sheraton Boston garage at 4 - the new road from New Haven to Hartford will also take 20 minutes off New York to Hanover trip.
Balance of column written by '27ers at Boston Dinner: Shorty and Bertha Oliver - No news is good news — the younger generation has left us and we are growing younger every day - and enjoying it. We were particularly pleased to have the New York contingent here tonight.
Bill and Kay Prescott - Announce the arrival to Jack ('61) and Margaret — our first granddaughter, Nancy Elizabeth, Colby Jr. material 1982. Bob and Doris Fall - Hope we didn't break your camera; hoping you'll have a chance to use it again this fall. Beat Princeton! Larry and Ora Scammon — With the help of the New York contingent, the Class of 1927 really showed the way at our first Boston Alumni Dinner at the New Sheraton in Boston.
Joe and Dotti Kelley — Rog: As you can see, I'm remarried to a Penn. Dutch Sprite from Pa. All kids out of college so we're really living. (Ed.: Congratulations, Joe, on the new and most attractive Mrs. Kelley.) Bill Cusack - A great 1927 delegation is present. We salute New York gang in making this evening a Page One for 1927.Don Gardner - Still skiing Wildcat, Cannon, Stowe, Sugarloaf; alternating years with Europe and Aspen, Altah, Vail, Arrapahoe. Three grandchildren. Had a telephone conversation New Year's with Harryand Lib Wallace, Charlestown, W. Va.
Sid Voice - Dear Rog, You're a great "instant" photographer! In spite of a twisted neck and a promised snowstorm, I had to come to Boston to see the boys in the class, most of whom come to New York for our shindigs. They're a great bunch. I hope to see them at Dartmouth-New York, later this year. Doane Arnold - Dear Rog, You know all about (too much) me - same old job - 4 kids, 21, 20, 18, 17 - Vassar, Lake Forest, Kenyon, and Weston High School. Present hobby - working like hell!
Bob Page - Looking forward to being in Hanover this June when my son, Bob Jr., graduates. Tom Anglem - Great to see so many of the class gathered together, look forward to another gathering in the fall. (Ed.: Tom is candidate for most distinguished looking member of 1927.) PaulHannah - Have added two partners, Richard McGuire and Ed Merrigan. Busy shuttling between Boston and Washington and points in between. What a grand gang from 1927 are meeting tonight, particularly from New York.
Charlie Paddock was hidden some place when notes to classmates were gathered. Can report he looks exactly like he did in 1927!! Ding and Lou Heap also there. HitchHitchcock and his wife had reservations but were held up. Charlie and Barbara Bartlett off in Bahamas cruising - lucky bums.
Just got word that New York '27 group will honor Gus Cummings at their annual dinner April 27. Hope you can join us in recognizing a great guy who has been '27's one and only Class Treasurer. Incidentally, Gus married Mrs. Sibyl A. Merwin on November 24 last. If you were in Hanover for the ill-fated Princeton game in 1964, you met the charming new Mrs. Cummings then, when Gus had her in town to meet his family. Among Gus' other recent honors was the Annual Management dinner of the Koppers Company, where the host division is chosen on the basis of its current year performance. Metal Products Division (Gus is v.p. and general manager) was selected on the basis of the finest 1965 job and Gus was host and master of ceremonies. Hear that Gus was touched by a fine caricature which Gordon Smith sent in and somewhat flabbergasted that Gordon even knew of the affair. Will whoever has it, bring it along so '27ers can see it April 27?
Dave Merriam of Southbridge, Mass., keeps his eye out for '27 news - sends word of Jock Davis' election as a director of Worcester County National Bank, also of Paul Revere O'Connell's appointment as a member of the Advisory Board of Assump- tion College of Worcester.
Have other bits and pieces of news picked up at lunch with Bob Stevens, Ken Murray, and Doc Greener recently in New York. Don O'Hara off on a retirement trip to west including Mexico. Let's have a report, Don. Ross Nichols has semi-retired and is living at his place at Exmoor, Va., on the Chesapeake. Doc Greener said he felt a little like Bernstein when he directed the University Glee Club in "Eleazar" at their annual concert in New York's new Philharmonic Hall. Said also he saw Ross Guyot this winter in Los Angeles in good health and spirits while he (Doc) was visiting his (Doc's) son, Allen '58.
Have run out of space - more later - see you N. Y. Dartmouth Club, April 27.
